Top Gear Rally Car by Reforma

Top Gear Rally Car Design Banner

Exciting times for Reforma; our designer, Shabaz Bashir, produced an awesome design for the Top Gear Hyundai i20 rally car, entered as part of a competition for Top Gear Magazine. This design was produced and displayed on a 3D model, allowing the true finish of the vehicle to be displayed accurately, resulting in a stunning looking design.

We then submitted the design to Top Gear and waited. Last week we heard back; our design had been judged and voted as the favourite. This means our design will be reproduced and fitted onto the Top Gear Rally Car, ready for its debut at Wales Rally GB, driven by Top Gear Editor Ollie Marriage.

“It was the unique crazy paving effect that really swung the judges’ vote – that and the mirror finish that we reckon might look the business reflecting back the trees and scenery during Wales Rally GB. Until it’s covered in mud, that is…”

Well done to our designer Shabaz who designed the graphics and then rendered them in a 3D environment – It will be great to see the design racing around the 23 stages!

Formula One Suzuka Grand Prix

f1 suzuka

Typhoon Phanphone causing severe delays and disruptions to the race hit Formula One Suzuka Grand prix this afternoon. When the race was scheduled to set underway, the weather was too severe. Instead of being in their cars the drivers were huddled under umbrellas miserably staring at the soaking wet track as the hard rain continued to increase. Eventually the race was deemed safe enough to start under the safety car and finally we would get to see if Hamilton could fight back to P1 against his team mate Rosberg.

Alonso’s Ferrari was hit by failure before the race had even properly begun and released from the safety car.  The Spaniard was clearly disappointed about not competing in the race as the formula one Suzuka race is one of his favourites on the calendar.

As the race was released a lot of the focus was on the two silver arrows fighting for P1. Incredible amounts of water spray coming from the rears of the cars make it impossible for the drivers behind to see where they were going.

Hamilton hunted down Rosberg lap after lap, but the German drove a clean race managing to stay out in front. Hamilton was pushing hard, with his car twitching and sliding all over the track the Brit drover superbly to manage to keep it on the track and still within catching distance of Rosberg.

It was all down to the pit stops, but Hamilton was pushing too hard and came off the track heading too fast into the turn. Hamilton managed to wrestle the car back onto the dry line but the mistake proved constantly as Rosberg came out of the pits still in front. Hamilton immediately followed into the pits but the damage was done as Robserg was still in front when Hamilton exited the pits.

After driving a clean race in the still severe weather conditions, Rosberg hit a rare mistake exiting the last turn, the German struggled to get traction and the mistake was costly enough for Hamilton to pounce.  The Brit produced an incredibly brave pass, throwing the car out onto the wettest part of the track and going around the outside of Robserg through turn 1. The brit maintained the position and continued to pull away from his teammate.

The wet weather conditions were too intense and drivers were coming off the track turn after turn so the FIA decided to bring the race to a close on Lap 43.  Due to 75% of the race being completed the finish will stand and Hamilton took the victory, with Rosberg in P2 and Vettel taking uo the final place on the podium.

In further news which came to light after the race, Jules Bianchi was in a dangerous crash, colliding with the JCB which was removing Sutil’s car from the barriers .Bianchi was rushed to the hospital in a critical state and immediately went under surgery for a ‘sever head injury’. The drivers were clearly affected by the news, Hamilton describing the victory as ‘anti-climatic after the terrible news about Bianchi. Our hopes and wishes from all the drivers and paddock go out to him’

Red Bull lose Vettel to Ferrari

f1 suzuka

Formula One Qualifying set under way today as the season starts working towards an incredible end. With just five races left and the drivers’ championship between Hamilton and Rosberg as good as all square, this has been an incredible season which will ultimately draw to a dramatic end. After Hamilton’s victory in Singapore and Rosberg’s DNF the rivalry between these two is only intensifying and each was aiming to get back on top this weekend by firstly taking pole position.

However, the limelight was taken away from the Mercedes duo with the shocking revelation of Sebestian Vettel officially leaving the Red Bull team. There had been speculations and rumours all season with Fernando Alonso expressing openly his unhappiness within the Ferrari team and his desire to move to another team. Rumours surrounded Vettel loosely until this morning before Qualifying the revelation was official announced by Red Bull that Vettel will be at another F1 team for the 2015 season. There is no bad blood or unhappiness between Vettel and the Red Bull team, and it is clear the four-time champion is looking for a new challenge for the second half of his career.

The news has sparked more speculations once again, over which drivers will be with which teams next season. Vettel hasn’t confirmed officially that he will be moving to Ferrari all though Christian Horner may have let it out the bag when he said ‘Vettel is our driver now for this season, and starting 2015 he will be a great competitor within Ferrari. Ferrari is set to make an official announcement over the weekend to confirm the Vettel to Ferrari rumours.

Raikkonen was quick to take himself out of the driver drama agreeing to talk with the press and quick to answer he has no intentions to leave and will be with the Ferrari outfit next season. However, Alonso was a little more guarded and careful with his answers, making it clear he will be leaving the Ferrari team at the end of the season but no clues has to where he will be going next. Toto Wolff and Niki Lauda were quick to rule out the Spaniard moving to Mercedes and said they are 99% happy with their current driver line up for next season.

Red Bull were also quick to rule out the Spaniard making an announcement to confirm the young Daniil Kvyat will be joinging Ricciardo at Red Bull next season. Asked why Alonso wasn’t a better choice for Red Bull, Horner didn’t agree; ‘Alonso hasn’t won the championship for 10 years, and it doesn’t fit the Red Bull philosophy of our young driver programme’. Horner went on further to express the impressive performance of Ricciardo this season and they are more than enthusiastic to get behind him to take the championship next season.

All speculations and rumours lead to Alonso returning to McLaren. Ron Dennis hit back at the rumours saying nothing had been confirmed, it is very open and there are many possibilities.’ He further went on to say though that, ‘everything is going according to plan and we will have to wait and see’. The return of Honda power for Mclaren next season seems to be the right ingredients to bring McLaren back to winning form, and with the addition of Fernando Alonso, it could making the Woking outfit back to Championship winning ways.

Returning back to the silver arrows teams and their fighting two drivers they each exchanged fastest lap times through practice and qualifying rounds. It came right down to the chequered flag but Hamilton unfortunately couldn’t do enough to beat his teammate who took pole by 0.1 seconds. Hamilton didn’t appear too pleased but was adamant he was more than fine, and completely focused to take the victory in tomorrow’s race.

Paris Motor Show 2014

Paris motor show

This week has seen a vast amount of beautiful concept cars and future brand visions touch down in Paris for the annual Paris motor show for 2014. The Paris motor show is one of the favourites on the automotive calendar and always promises to deliver on unique concepts with an abundance of style. This year didn’t disappoint, and with so many stunning cars to choose from it was hard to narrow it down to just a few favourites.

Take a look below at some of our favourites from the Paris motor show and let us know if you agree with our choices.

Mercedes AMG GT

The AMG GT is an everyday sports car,, stepping in head to head with the high end Porsche 911 variants and Audi R8’s. A market which has been so heavily donimanted by Porsche for decades, with only Audi managing to steal always some of the sales from Porsche. However, this beautifully sculpted Mercedes AMG-GT has all the right ingredients to be a serious contender. Presented in a matt yellow body work with contrasting carbon fibre roof and body details, gives a hint to race feeling of the V8 engine power and 189mph top speed of this car, and that’s just the base model. Sport styling inside and out, the cockpit hangs over the rear wheels with that SLS influenced long bonnet stretched out in front.

Lamborghini Asterion Hybrid

Lamborghini turned up to the Paris motor show with an all new concept, with different proportion and stance we’ve been used to from Lamborghini in recent years.  Further more it seems Lamborghini is going eco with a plug in hybrid engine. . .  .or maybe not as you need to add a V10 5.2litre natural aspirated engine with 610bhp to that hybrid engine. All those engines and figures combined creates the most powerful Lamborghini ever unleashing 910bhp. Just before you start putting this Lamborghini on your Christmas list, Lamborghini have no plans to produce this monster of a machine. A shame it wont be hitting the roads, be really nice to see Lamborghini producing a design of different proportion with a more cab rear design putting an ‘emphasis on comfort’ as you cruise along at 910bhp.

Renault Eolab

Talking of hybrid engines the Renault Eolab came to Paris motor show with eager viewers looking forward to seeing the crazy styling and surfacing of the Eolab. The design is incredibley futuristic with reflections dancing all around the surfaces in a harmonious way. An incredibly aerodynamic design with a drag coefficent of 0.235 and a low weith of 400kg less than a Clio. The car is a design and technological innovation break through for Renault pathing the way for some of their future car features.

Citroen C4 Cactus Airflow

A very similar brief to the Renault Eolab with a very different outcome. Both designs are stunning pieces of design and examples of how diverse car design can still be with new technologies, new materials encouraging new innovations. The Citroen Cactus is a fantastic design and a favourites across the majority of designers around. The Cactus, an already graphical design arrive at Paris motor show even more graphical, bearing number 2 decals along the side, and Red accent details around the air bumps, c-pillar and wheel details. The styling tweaks to the Cactus reduce drag by 20percent thanks largely in part to the huge air vents inside the front bumper. Hidden away underneath all the styling is a Hybrid Air powertrain that combines a three cylinder petrol engine, a compressed air energy storage unit, hydraulic pump/motor and an automoticat transmission with an epicyclic gear train. With three drive modes available for petrol only,  air only and combined allows the car to produce an incredibly impressive 141mpg.

Peugeot Quartz

Leading upto the Paris motor show Peugeot released images of the Peugeot Quartz and the Paris motor show would be the first time we would get to confirm the crazy photos were as unbelievable as they seemed. The quartz is a crossover SUV concept, standing on huge 23 inch wheels. The Quartz is described by Peugeot as a ‘SUV for the future’ and this is the feeling all around with the dramatic, sharp and all in all crazy exterior styling. A very cool concept, and a lot of styling creativity all around our favourites being the volcano red accent colours on all four sides of the car, and the colour/texture change of the wrapped rear end which is becoming a signature for Peugeot.

Many, many other concepts we could have chosen from; such as the Citroen Divine, Audi TT Sportback, Infiniti Q80 and the VW XL Sport which all deserve a special mention. We hope you agree with our list and please let us know which were your favourites and would have liked to have seen make our list.
