Jaguar XE Launch and Jaguar Future

Jaguar recently launched the eagerly awaited XE concept, which stands to be its crucial new saloon to fight the Audi A4 and BMW 3-Series in the heavily competitive D-segment market. The XE comes with high hopes of reigning in the profits  The XE appears to be the icing on the cake to an all new Jaguar future. The British car company is out in full force to bring the brand back on top to where many feel it belongs.

Jaguar CX-75
Jaguar Cx-75 concept launched in 2010, is a truly stunning piece of sculpture. A signature of what Jaguar does best, sophisticated, sports car, sculptured elegance. A huge leap for the future of super car power train with the car original proposed to run on Jet turbines hybrid engine. Rumours circulated that the CX-75 would cost too much to produce and Jaguar feared it wouldn’t reach the desired sales required to be a profit for the brand. However, Jaguar continue to play with the CX-75 releasing an electric 1.6litre  turbocharged and supercharged engine hybrid producing 850bhp, breaking top speeds of 200mph and 0-100mph under 6seconds. We’re all sitting and hoping Jaguar finds a way to bring this work of art to production, and graces the British roads some time soon.

Jaguar F-Type
Jaguar did the unthinkable and revived the E-Type name creating the follow up vehicle, the F-Type, over 40years in the making if the name is anything to go by. The F-Type is a sleek, sculptured sports car. Short rear over hand with a long raging bonnet outstretched in front. Launched firstly as a convertible and followed up by the even more stunning coupe version the car brought along with it some high ambitions for Jaguar fans. The rasp of the engine as it rattles the exhaust and climbs through the rev range screeches along the road and is truly  a sound to experience like no other on the road. The price for the F-type puts its firmly in contention with the Porsche 911 which is an almost impossible market to break into. If anything can do it, this F-type has all the right ingredients to do so, but only time will tell if the F-Type can pry devoted customers out of the clutches of Porsche.

Jaguar CX-17
The Jaguar CX-17 is a completely new platform venture for Jaguar, using the experience and knowledge of their Land Rover brother. The Jaguar CX-17 is an SUV platform looking to sit between the Range Evoque and the Range Rover Sport. The SUV market is an ever expanding, lucrative market which Jaguar has produced a winning design to cash in on. The concept already received design awards for its elegant and futuristic interior. The strong 4×4 stance still manages to show some F-type influences and keeps the sportiness we’re accustomed too from Jaguar, evident in the fast C-pillar and rake rear window. While some still need time to get used to seeing the sports car brand in a 4×4 stance, all credit is due to the Jaguar design team for making the SUV look like a true Jaguar, opening further platforms for the future.

Jaguar XE
The XE is set to be the money-maker across the range. One of the biggest selling markets for cars, the D-segment, Jaguar has played their cards carefully with this car waiting for the right time to launch the vehicle. The XE was launched with one of the most revealing events ever seen, with the car flown in via helicopter over the British capital, followed by a theatre production of a young Scotsman with a dream of designing race cars and Jaguars.

Formula One Singapore Grand Prix

The Formula One championship pendulum continues to swing back and forth once again. It’s very clear the championship is heading to the Mercedes camp, but the all important question we’re all waiting for, which driver will take the title Hamilton or Rosberg. Hamilton seems to have broken the shackles of his bad luck which had his fans fearing the title was slipping from his grasp in mid-season. Battling from behind in Monza the stage was set for Hamilton to make a strong come back in Singapore.

In a thrilling qualifying session all eyes were firmly on the two Mercedes drivers, with a loose eye on the two Red Bulls who’s car suits perfectly for the twisty Singapore track. However, nothing was going to stand in the way of the Mercedes drivers who are now racing like fierce rivals, a big change from the childhood friends in karting where their relationship began. Rosberg pushed Hamilton right to the wire, but the Brit managed to steal pole by 0.007 seconds, the closest qualifying of the season. When notified on the radio Robserg expressed his disappointment with a ‘Damn it!’ in response to his engineer.

When Hamilton’s dominance couldn’t seem to rise any higher, his good fortunes climbed even higher as Rosberg’s car was hit with a failure. A clear concern for the Mercedes team as they’ve been hit with yet another car fault but it’s hard to imagine Hamilton not beaming with delight at seeing the retirement of his teammate.

The pressure was still on, with the two raging bulls racing down hard in Hamilton’s wing mirrors. The Singapore grand prix is one of the toughest and most head exhausting races of the season with it reaching within the two-hour time limit each year, along with a guaranteed safety car.

Hamilton put in a faultless drive with the championship lead firmly in his sights. With the Red Bull’s pushing him right to the wire, with the assistance of a safety car reigning Hamilton’s lead back in to give Vettel and Ricciardo a chance to steal the victory from Lewis causing complications to his strategy. Closing into the final laps of the race and Hamilton having to make a pit-stop to meet the race legislation requirements the pressure was on to increase the gap to Vettel all over again with very few laps to do so.

Hamilton pushed lap after lap and a faultess pit-stop from the Mercedes team put Hamilton out tightly between the two Red Bulls. With the fresher tyres Hamilton made an easy pass to reclaim the lead and to take the victory of the Singapore Grand Prix, and put the Brit back on top of the Formula One drivers championship for the first time since the start of the season.

The stage is set with only five races left, and the fans can’t help but feel the unappreciated new double points rule for the final race of the season will come into play in this dramatic 2014 script.

Formula E Championship Debut in Beijing

formula e

This weekend saw the launch and debut of the future thinking motor racing championship of Formula E. The sport has been rumoured and speculated over in recent years and today the rumours were finally answered. With mixed opinions about how successful the sport would be, the debut race in Beijing set out to show the world this championship is here to stay, and planning to be a very successful one.

Formula E aims to tackle environment issues which have been inflicted by the automobile, and stand up for ‘social responsibility’ to ensure we change the damages the car has caused to the environment so far. A fully electric vehicle, with the proportion looking pretty similar to what we would expect from a Formula 1 car, with some added Aero styling drama particularly around the wheels.

The sport has some very influential, and high profile support including Richard Branson and Leonardo Di Caprio who each backed a team. The FIA governing body is also supporting the sport, which shows the seriousness for the championship as a very competitive motor sport championship for the future.

The cars are practically silent, with the distinctive electric whirring noise the only engine sound coming from the car. Critics were concerned the lack of engine sound would lose a lot of the drama for the sport, a similar concern for this seasons Formula 1 cars. However the silence makes way for tyre squeels, and audible crash impacts, which Nick Heidfield and Nicolas Prost demonstrated on the final lap of the debut race.

Heidfield was looking to take the lead of the race when Nicolas Prost (F1 Legend, Alan Prost’s son) collided with Heidfield (former F1 star) creating a spectacular collision. The crash handed the race win to Lucas Di Grassi (former Formula 1 Driver) to win the first race in the sport’s debut season.

The sports driver line up is already attracting big names and surprises, with 10 ex Formula 1 names on the track, and also two females lining up on the grid as well, further adding to the sports future thinking mentality. If the driver line up wasn’t enough to attract your attention, the official safety car for the sport is the stunning new BMW i8, an absolute innovation in modern day car design.

Critics expressed further opinions over the race length, only 25 laps, and also the pit stop difference with instead of changing tyres, the drivers jump out and change cars due to battery life.

All in all it was a successful debut in Beijing, and will be exciting to see how the sport develops over the season, leading up to the finale race in London. Given a couple more years its hard not to imagine this sport pushing further to great heights and successes.
